Nikki Haley Supports Defunding the UN

( – Former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley may be running against former president Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, but a recent interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity revealed that the two aren’t as different as many think.

For one, Haley said that despite her history with the organization, she would take steps to “defund” the United Nations “as much as possible,” given that she believes that the U.N. has “historically (been) anti-American and antisemitic.” In addition, she said that she believes that the World Health Organization – which is part of the U.N.’s umbrella of organizations, is “bought and paid for by the Chinese.”

In the past, Haley has also called the U.N. Human Rights Council a “farce”, given its decision to appoint Iran as this year’s chair of the UN Human Rights Council Social Forum, as well as the reelection of China and Cuba – nations she called “human rights abusers” – to the UNHRC.

“The UNHRC is a sham. It is not worthy of its name,” she said.

Haley also said in the interview that she would reverse the Biden administration’s decision to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement and the Human Rights Council. During his term, former president Trump pulled the U.S. out of the agreement and the council. Haley said she would add a U.S. pull out of the World Health Organization to her to-do list if elected president.

“We don’t have to be in any of those other organizations,” Haley told Hannity.

Despite her feelings of animosity towards the U.N., Haley told Hannity that it was still important that the U.S. keep its membership in the U.N, given its power – one that only four other countries besides America hold – to veto. Haley explained that the U.S. can use that veto to “stop China, Russia and Iran” and “keep bad things from happening.”
