Denver Spends MILLIONS to Move Migrants

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Denver, Colorado has reportedly spent millions of dollars transportation costs alone for migrants requesting to be transferred to other states.

Denver is one of the cities in the U.S. that calls itself a “sanctuary city” for migrants, whom they call “guests”. However, the city has unavoidably stretched its resources thin, earlier declaring a state of emergency over the large influx of migrants it has welcomed and supported in the last year.

According to a report by CBS News, the city has shelled out roughly $4.5 million for relocation requests for around 12,000 migrants who want to be transferred to other states. The city accedes to requests for train, bus, and even plane tickets from migrants on a case-by-case basis, as long as the city can ensure that the family or individuals requesting the transfer truly need or want to get to the city they are asking to be transferred to.

Speaking to Fox News, a spokesperson for the city said that many migrants are just using Denver as a jumping point to their final destination in the U.S., where they have family, friends, or other support systems waiting.

The spokesperson explained that migrants request for transfers due of their “built-in support systems from family and friends” in the cities they want to move to. The spokesperson added that many migrants also choose U.S. cities where they believe they will find work more attuned to their skills.

Mike Johnston, the mayor of Denver, is one of several city leaders in the U.S. that is petitioning the White House and the administration of President Joe Biden for supplemental funds due to the migrant crisis. Denver says it needs an additional $5 billion to help cover costs for the migrants it is housing – the city has already spent almost $25 million for costs associated with sheltering migrants. An additional $1.4 billion is also needed to support border security initiatives, but that is subject to approval from Congress.
