Why Is California Gas So Expensive?!

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – California is known for being an expensive state, especially when it comes to things like gas, and according to AAA, California’s gas prices are the highest in the United States.

The average price for gas in California is $4.87 while the national average everywhere else is $3.40. There are a few factors that contribute to the high gas prices in California, which include high taxes, refining costs, marketing, and distribution. According to the Energy Information Administration, California has the highest gas taxes in the U.S.

The main reason for California’s high gas prices is because it has an isolated refinery market and the fuel they use helps to reduce pollution. There are only 11 refineries that make this special fuel, which is a huge drop in the amount of refineries there once was.

According to a senior public affairs specialist, Anileyn Venegas, “Not many other states use the same blend of fuel, which limits California’s supply when there’s an outage when there’s an issue at one of our refineries.” This also means that any changes or outages will cause fluctuations in the gas prices.

Experts also say that California doesn’t want to expand its refineries as they’re trying to push electric vehicles. They are looking into a transition into cleaner travel and plan to ban gas-powered vehicles by 2035.

GasBuddy is an app to help drivers find cheaper gas. The head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan said, “The high price of gasoline does encourage more EV adoption. Americans getting hit with $5 and $6 per gallon prices in California is likely accelerating the shift away.”

Experts suggest other ways to save on gas in California when gas prices are higher. Changing your driving habits can help to save you money when it comes to gas prices. Here are some ways that you can save on gas:

– Shop around gas stations for the lowest price
– Upkeep on vehicle maintenance
– Plan your route and take fewer trips
– Drive the speed limit; don’t speed
– Don’t drive aggressively or with high acceleration
